I teach journalism and media as both academic disciplines and professional practices, bringing together critical thinking, practical journalism, research and digital innovation.
With more than 12 years of experience in journalism education, I have taught, convened and developed courses across UNSW Sydney, Macquarie University, the University of Sydney and the University of Newcastle, alongside my earlier career as a journalist and editor.

Teaching Through Practice
My teaching connects theory with practice through workshops, collaborative activities, writing exercises, real-world cases and project-based learning.
I encourage students to question assumptions, work with evidence, experiment with different forms of storytelling and reflect on their journalistic decisions. In my classes, theory becomes a tool for understanding and practising journalism.
Curriculum Development
I have developed and redeveloped journalism and media courses in response to changes in digital journalism, data, artificial intelligence and the wider media landscape.
My research in journalism education, data journalism and environmental communication also informs my teaching, creating a connection between research, curriculum and classroom practice.
Supervision & Mentoring
I support students in developing research questions, practical projects and independent academic work, particularly across journalism, journalism education, data journalism, digital media and environmental communication.
I encourage students to develop their own questions, make informed decisions and build confidence in their intellectual and professional direction.
My aim is to help students become thoughtful practitioners who can combine journalistic skills with curiosity, evidence and critical thinking.
